Hi Guys and Dolls! The Style Black Collection from MAC has been all abuzz in the blogosphere and on youtube. I’m sorry I didn’t get swatches for you of all the products, but to be honest, I didn’t even think I was going to do a review at all. But I wanted to review the Volcanic Ash exfoliator and Young Punk while they still might be available at a store or counter near you.
Young Punk is my current fave e/s. It looks like Reflects glitter with a somewhat sheer black base color. I want to wear this 24/7, on my eyes and my lips. It’s so pretty, I can’t believe I nearly passed on this. Swatches on Specktra really didn’t do much for me as far as this collection was concerned. Then the Lovely Jacqueline of A Brilliant Brunette posted this Look. I loved it instantly (along with pretty much everything this girl does, she’s fantastic!). Then Candyishmakeup bought Young Punk and was lovely enough to swatch it over different bases for me (thank you!) I immediately called my local MAC store to see if they still had it, and Luck Of Luck, they did! I’m so happy that I got this, I feel like it’s the prettiest e/s I own! I simply adore it, and I’m thrilled to death! Blue Flame was also just GORGEOUS, but I have plenty of black eye shadows and reflects blue glitter, so I can fake it. In the above photo I upped the saturation a bit so you could see what this e/s REALLY looks like!
This one I didn’t really do anything to, but since it’s Blurry the Glitter shows up. It’s a real shame Glitter doesn’t look better in pictures.
This Picture I didn’t modify in any way except to crop it. It really looks nothing like the e/s does in real life, but I thought I’d include an “untouched” photo for reference.
I also got the Volcanic Ash Exfoliator. I have mixed feeling about this one. It does exfoliate , and it does smell nice, and I even like the weird black/brown color. But this isn’t something special. I can’t say that this gives me better results than my normal homemade sugar& honey or even sugar and water mix. The only thing this really has over that is that I don’t have to mix it. But I already have a good pre-made exfoliator from Clean and Clear.
The MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator retails for 19.50 for 3.4 oz, while the Clean And Clear Steam Soft in Shower Facial retails for around 7 for 5oz. I really don’t think the MAC one is anything special, but if you really want a Luxury, go for it. I think I’m going to return mine.
Other thank that, I did briefly swatch the Mattene lipsticks which looked really neat, but I’d already over spent this month. The grease paints looked pretty neat, but they didn’t Scream “buy me @ 16.50 for 1oz!” So I didn’t. I did get a Sneak Peek of the Holiday 09: Magic, Mirth and Mischief Collection and I was plesantly surprised. Usually I see the early pictures of the palettes and think “OMG I have to HAVE THAT” but in person I change my mind. THIS year, I saw the stuff online and though “pass” but in person I thought “OMG! wants!” Mac you never cease to surprise me. Also I don’t know if this will be news to anyone, but the Brush sets are different this year, for one, the 227 is going to be in one of the sets! Each set seems to be different in one way or another, SO I’m tempted to get those too. Not that i need them, Maybe I’ll just finally buy the 227, lol!
Now might be an Odd time to mention it, but as you may know, I’m doing a makeup storage video this week, and due to me going though my stash a bit, I’m going to have another blog sale. YAY! That will probably go up this weekend.
I’m going to be having a quite a few reviews coming up on the blog, I’m just really backed up on stuff to review, and I want to be current again.
<3 Ya, Cora
