Revised Jan 18, 2011
Something has been bothering me for a long time and a recent question I received was the nail in the coffin. Some very rude and confused individual tried to tell me that I’m a bitch who basically just makes videos to make money and get free stuff, and I complain about my view counts “all the time”. I’ve been asked/told similar things before, and I figured a few different people think this, (or one persistent hater) so why not address it?
To this I say: You must have me confused with someone else. While I’m happy to make money off my videos: that’s a PERK, not the sole reason for having a beauty blog! I did this for a LONG time for free. It’s awesome to get paid to do something you love. I’m sorry that we all can’t make money doing what we love, because I’ll be honest, making money off a hobby is the coolest thing ever. I don’t take money from my subscribers, I don’t do paid product placement or paid product reviews, so I see it as a great thing that I can make a little ad revenue on the videos that I work on for hours on end. Don’t get me wrong I love it- but it’s time consuming.
Beyond that if I was just in this for the money, I’d have like 4 videos a week, since the more videos I have, the more I’d make. You guys would be so sick of me and my videos wouldn’t be worth watching! I put a lot of information, thought and love into my videos because unlike whoever you have me mistaken for, I really care about my subscribers. I think about you guys all the time, stuff I could show you, what would be a good value, what techniques, etc… I buy a lot of products for the sake of showing/reviewing them to/for you. So if this company or that company wants to send me a product for free for review consideration, I’m all for it- if it’s something that I would be interested in.
I don’t accept money/products from companies I don’t believe in, I don’t do PAID REVIEWS, and I would never lie to you guys to get free items -that’s just ridiculous. Seriosuly what would be the point?
Me complaining about views “all the time”? Who do you have me mistaken for? No, I really want to know! I don’t even know when the last time I lamented to my Twitter followers about that! Twitter is sort an open-door platform where I can vent about whatever, get feedback from you guys etc….and from what I hear, many of you appreciate my honesty. For a time I was just frustrated in general, and maybe I said things I shouldn’t have. C’mon we’ve all been frustrated and said thing we didn’t mean & regret, I just said them on the internet. In truth I now find it nearly impossible to keep up with the emails, messages, and comments I get daily- again I’m not complaining, but I just feel bad that I can’t respond to more questions- I feel like I’m letting people down 🙁
Anyway, these kinds of comment hurt my feeling, because I know that my intention are honest and well- meaning- People that think these things need to stop projecting on me. This is the reason I deleted my Formspring account- there were a fair few legitimate questions, but many were personal or troll-y, and a handful were mean spirited- no one needs that.
I feel much better now!
All that said, I know that this send off only applies to a very (very) small percentage of you! I want you all to know that I really appreciate all of you, and even if you had a twisted idea about me, it’s all good. This is in no way a ploy to get sympathy, and I’m not over here crying or anything! I just really needed to clear the air and get those thoughts off my chest! I’m not stupid, I know what people in the beauty community think of gurus/bloggers/etc. I just needed to let you all know I’m not “that” Guru.
I’m a goober.
With love and respect,
