Hi Guys and Dolls! Today I’m reviewing one of my favorite Drugstore Lip Products, Revlon’s Color Burst Lipgloss. Prices on the gloss vary-$7.49 to $9.79 for 5.66gm. This drugstore gem is housed in a sleek looking tube with an unusual applicator that makes application easy (not too much gloss, not too little) and gives a sheer to medium color payoff (judging from the 4 shades that I have). The color selection is unique and nuanced in a way that reminds me of expensive lipgloss. Revlon states that this gloss is intended to give 5x the shine of patent-leather. I don’t get that effect- you’d have to really pile this on to make it patent leather-eque, and at that point the gloss would settle into lip lines- not a cute look. They also claim that this gloss is weightless -that claim is quite accurate; the texture is thin and non-sticky. The gloss is lightly vanilla scented but not too over powering. The scent is slightly chemically, but it dissipates after a few minutes and I don’t find it to be a deal-breaker. If you’re looking for the glass-like shine this may not be for you, but overall I love the nuanced colors, moisturizing texture and medium shine.
Crystal Lilac: Sheer Baby-Pink with Violet/Pink highlight shimmer. Similar in effect to MAC’s Flusterose Lusterglass but not a dead-on dupe.
Papaya: Medium-Coverage red-coral that leans cool-toned. If MAC’s Richer, Lusher and Double Dare CremeSheen Glass’ had a baby this would be it.
Peony: Sheer Golden Pink with Gold/multi Glitter. This one pretty much shows up clear on my with a bit of glitter. The Glitter is small and you can’t really feel it. I don’t know of any direct substitutes for this.
Rosegold: Medium-Full coverage tan-gold-pink with Golden and Pink shimmer. This one would work on a variety of skin tones- Must-have!
The uniqueness of the colors, texture and overall appeal of the tube make this gloss a winner for me, though it does not live up to it’s patent-leather claim.
