Hi Guys & Dolls,
Do you want a luxury lipstick at a bargain price? Duh who doesn’t! Back when I was first getting into lipstick I stumbled upon these at Walgreens and flipped out over how fabulous & affordable they were. Back then I was always questing for MAC type products, and they were the ultimate MAC dupes: similar in texture to an Amplified Cream Lipstick at less than a third of the cost, heck they even smelled like MAC’s signature vanilla smell!
For years I’ve loved the Milani Color Perfect Lipstick formula- it’s creamy, smooth, hydrating, wonderful color payoff, and the price point makes it so easy to experiment with colors you might not normally try. Years later, the quality is still there, though the shape and smell is different. The shape of the lipstick itself is now a geometric point and the smell is sort of perfumey. uh-oh. You guys know I hate perfume or floral scented lipsticks. Many very high-end lipsticks have a perfume/floral scent, and for me that’s usually a turn off. When Milani first changed the scent I was so annoyed, but over time it’s grown on me- I even open the tubes to sniff them on purpose. I think they changed it to emulate those high-end lipsticks, so if you want a Luxury Lipstick on a shoestring budget, give these a whirl!
From L-R: Red Velvet, Brown Suede, Plum Deluxe, Nude Creme, Barely There & Red Label
Red Velvet-Deep, bold blue based red. This one looks fantastic on my complexion, and I can see this working on a lot of different people. Bonus: blue based lipsticks make you teeth look whiter!
Nude Creme- Light pink nude. A great color for people who find many other nudes to dull or concealer-mouthy. Oh yes I did. This was one of the first nude lipsticks I ever liked on myself!
Barely There- Less pink compared to Nude Creme. This one reminds me of MAC’s Blankety lipstick, though I don’t have it to compare. This one is more like a traditional nude but it’s not that bad on me. It’s muted, but it doesn’t appear overly gray or brown like many nudes will.
Plum Deluxe- Deep shimmering plum. A great way to dabble into vampy lip color. If it feels like too much for you try applying it over lipbalm to sheer it out. Gorgeous for fall.
Brown Suede- Sheer brown plum with bronze shimmer. Does anyone else think that it’s odd to call a shimmery color suede? This color is quite flattering and reminds me of a deeper browner version of MAC’s “O” lipstick. This does settle into lines slightly, but not as bad as the photo makes it look.
Red Label- bright medium red. The photo makes the look slightly blue based, but in person it’s more warm than cool. It’s not as rich as Red Velvet, but a good red.
The Bottom Line: Color Perfect Lipstick has been one of my fave lipstick formulas for years. The price is right, so if you don’t mind the scent (I don’t) than check these bad
boys girls out!
