MAC 6 Select Plums Lip Palette Review & Swatches

Hi Guys & Dolls!

For years I’ve been hoping MAC would come out with palettes for their lipsticks, and it seems my prayers were answered!

The preferred way for Artists to stay on trend: M·A·C Lip Palettes. Indispensable colours and editorial
essentials are organized into five compacts, each offering a shade-wave of six tones that streamlines your kit.
Customize within the same shade family, or cross-pollinate between palettes. Available in Red, Orange,
Pink, Plum and Brown. M·A·C PRO locations and Online only.

I’m all over these palettes. I’m old-school (aka lazy) and I still carry around the individual bullets in my kit- can we say inconvenient and hard to keep track of? I know I need to deal with the lipsticks I already have, but when something so easy, so simple comes along, it’s tempting to just buy these even when I have the colors in tubes already.

The MAC Pro Lip Palette, $38 for 6g comes with 6 1gm non-removable pans of lipstick, totally same amount of product as 2 full size MAC lipsticks, for the price of 2.53 lipsticks. While this certainly isn’t a steal of a deal, what you’re getting is a lot more variety and since I rarely use an entire lipstick up I’d rather have more color options anyway. There are 5 lip palettes grouped by color: 6 Editorial Oranges, 6 Editorial reds, 6 Modern Browns, 6 Preferred Pinks and 6 Select Plums. I’m quite impressed that MAC included some of the company’s best selling lipsticks, and for anyone wanting to beef up their lipstick collection this is a wonderful way to do it!

If I could give this palette homework it would be to have removable pans so we could swap out colors from each palette, and have refills to reduce packaging waste.

Plum is one of my most used colors on the lips, it flatters so many complexions and moods. Plum can be dark and vampy  or soft and healthy. This palette tells a wonderful tale of plum- 6 shades ranging from brown plum, bridal plum, vampy  plum, and all are sexy plum. YUM.

The 6 Select Plum palette is a must have for me, in fact I already have several of these lipsticks already. I arm & lip-swatched the colors for you; I am NW10-15 for reference.

Cyber- Blackened Plum. This lipstick used to intimidate the crap out of me, but over the years I’ve grown to love dark lips. It might not be one I reach for often but I love that it was included in this palette, it’s a great mixer color.

Amorous- Pink Plum. Amorous is a wonderfully wearable shade- I use this one on clients often.

Twig- Soft Muted Brownish Pink. I use this one so often for brides that its a bit embarrassing. Twig is one of MAC’s bestsellers for a reason, it’s flatting on nearly everyone fair-medium!

Hang Up- Deep Berry. Ah Hang-up. The lone cremesheen in a palette of satin lipsticks. I love this color on deep skinned ladies- it’s so classy and flattering!

Captive- Pink Plum. Captive is deeper than Amorous, but they are very similar. I use both quite often, interchangeably depending on the overall look.

Verve- Plum Brown. This color isn’t my personal cup of tea, but it’s a great brown for medium skinned gals with golden complexions.

The Bottom Line: I love this palette and know I will get tons of use out of it- into the kit it goes!

Where to buy- For now this is available only at MAC Pro Stores
