CAN WE TALK ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE BEAUTY GURU STANDARDS?

Hey Guys! I’m self aware, and I know I’ve been less active lately. I’ve pulled back to about a video a week, and that’s been because I needed some time to recharge my batteries and take care of my mental health. I’ve had very little makeup content for the last few months, and there are several reasons for that. The most important is that I find makeup videos to be more intimate, and I take it more personally when they don’t do as well. The beauty community has changed a lot since I started making videos is 2007, and half the time I feel like I’m juggling trying to keep up with ever-changing standards and trends, trying to forge my own path, and trying to figure out what you guys want to see. I feel like I’m in a rat race, and it can be disheartening to put everything into projects that don’t end up resonating with you, or maybe you aren’t seeing them due to keyword trends. Add to that dealing with jarsh keyboard judgments and mean comments, and the fact that Keeping up with the Jones’ has never been my thing- I like to dance to the beat of my own wacky drum, but I feel it’s getting harder and harder to do that while finding and maintaining an audience. Even this video- I have no idea how to title it or tag it so that it reaches the right people. As one of the original Beauty Gurus, I’ve seen the beauty community grow, and change, and expand and a lot of it is amazing! There are now more people than ever watching beauty content. However not all the changes have been positive and sometimes I find it hard to not be bitter that some bad-actors have ruined what was so special about it.

During my mini-hiatus, I’ve realized that the solution isn’t to abandon my makeup content, but to dive into it in my own way. Make the intimate, real videos I want to see. I’m going to do my best to strike a better balance between makeup and fashion content, because having both and being a badass at both it what makes my channel special. Being one of the originals who is still here is what makes my channel special. Having never broken your trust and staying true for a decade makes my channel something a lot of you find rare. So here’s to the next 10!

I totally feel what you’re sayin! Because you show one product that 60 other people have been sent and are doing the same video on that week. Yes you tube definitely has got boring thanks to the make up industry sending out promo packages. So all the gurus could pretty much do the same look with you product of the week. But what I love about you is you are fair skinned and not everything works for us fair skin ladies. And you would show us the products that do. You are AMAZING!!! You are right a lot of looks have been done. But remember us fair skin girls are special and not everything works for us. And that’s why I always turn to you. You have always been my favorite my favorite guru. Plus you are so classy. Love you girl!!! Keep doin’ what your doin’❤️❤️

Cora, dont you worry because I love your style, designs, color choices, and the fact that you know a lot of people don’t have a ton of money to throw down for makeup when you show us what can be done using drugstore products. You are beautiful and maybe you march to a different drummer than some, but I love that about you! I’m so sick of videos showing me how to contour my stinking face! OMG! I’m 52 and still love to play with eye colors and such. Keep doing what you are great at and and I ❤ U!

I’ve watched your videos and read your blog for years. I didn’t discover you tube until… 2011 when I caved and bought a new laptop after being computer-less for many years. I’ve watched you since then. You’ve always remained my favorite because of your quirky personality, style, and extreme creative skills. I took a hiatus from beauty videos and blogs for a little over a year. I unsubscribed from everyone and everything on all social media, etc. I needed a mental break from it all. Recently, I decided to watch one of your videos… out of nowhere I pulled up your channel and I’m addicted all over again. I re-subscribed, saw your videos with Gabrielle for the first time, binge watched a ton of your videos and hers, subscribed to her channel, found you both on Instagram… then I dove back into watching plus size fashion videos from other you tubers I once watched. I noticed when I was browsing your channel that there were much less makeup videos than I was used to seeing from you. Now, I understand why. I can’t wait to see what you come up with in the future. Your makeup style has always been my favorite. You do you and keep being your authentic self. Seeing you do a bikini video and WEAR IT ON CAMERA was omg surprising and awesome at the same time!!! Cora, you look amazing! I remember watching a haul video from you back when you were not ready to wear a suit on camera. You’ve grown so much in the past couple of years. I love the fashion videos you have come up with. I’m excited to see more of them. I’m excited to see anything you do. Thank you for being my entertainment for all these years.

I’ve essentially been watching youtube since the beginning and I have to say I really don’t watch makeup videos anymore, I really don’t use youtube that often, I think in part because instagram just gets you content faster which is sad really because there is a lot of good content on youtube. I literately only watch your videos. Even my own blog that was primarily beauty I took a year off and decided what I really wanted to do with it because I didn’t like where the community was going.

I always love your videos and I feel represented by you, I get to both see plus size content and all the lovely makeup tutorials which is great for me because I’m pretty pale. Plus you always brighten a day with your personality!

Keep doing you, because you’re amazing!

    best,
